Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose a small private school for my child?
Small schools provide a more personalized education where every student is known by name. With smaller class sizes, teachers can tailor instruction to meet individual needs. Students have greater opportunities for leadership, connection, and participation in a wide range of activities—academic, artistic, athletic, and spiritual. At a small school like Calvary, your child is never just a number—they’re family.
What is the difference between public and private schools?
Private schools are independently funded, allowing more flexibility in curriculum, class size, and teaching style. At Calvary, we provide a faith-based education that emphasizes character, responsibility, and community. Families choose us for our strong academics, moral grounding, and safe, nurturing environment. Unlike public schools, we are not bound by standardized testing mandates and can teach with both freedom and depth.
What can parents expect when they come on a school tour?
During your tour, you’ll walk the halls with one of our staff and experience life at Calvary. You’ll visit classrooms, meet teachers and students, and see how our values of reverence, respect, and responsibility come to life. You’ll have the chance to ask questions, discuss your child’s unique needs, and explore how Calvary can support your family’s educational goals.
What can students expect when they shadow for a day?
Student shadow days are designed to make your child feel welcome and engaged. They’ll be paired with a student ambassador and attend classes, eat lunch with peers, and participate in campus life. Many students tell us they “just knew” Calvary was the right place after their shadow visit—it’s where they felt seen, valued, and excited to learn.
What does it mean when you say Calvary feels like a family?
We believe students thrive when they feel safe, supported, and known. From Pre-K3 through 12th grade, every student is part of a close-knit, faith-centered community. Teachers go beyond academics to nurture each child’s growth, and students support one another across grade levels. One of our graduates said it best in her Valedictorian Speech — “we are not just classmates, we’re truly a family.”
Is financial aid or tuition assistance available?
Yes. Calvary is committed to making a high-quality education accessible. We offer need-based financial aid and work with families to find a path forward. We encourage all families to apply regardless of income.
How does Calvary support spiritual growth?
Calvary is an Episcopal school, grounded in Christian values. We offer regular chapel services, Christian Character Education, Bible classes, and service learning, while welcoming students of all faith backgrounds. Our goal is to help students develop a moral compass rooted in reverence for God, respect for others, and responsibility for self.
What grade levels does Calvary Episcopal Preparatory serve?
We are a PK3 through 12th grade school, which means your child can grow with us from their first day of school to their high school graduation. Our school structure allows for continuity, long-term friendships, and mentorship between age groups.
What is the admissions process like at Calvary Episcopal Preparatory?
Our admissions process is personalized and thoughtful. It begins with a campus tour, followed by an application and an assessment. We take time to get to know each student—not just on paper, but as a person—and work with families to ensure a good fit both academically and spiritually.
How does Calvary prepare students for college and beyond?
Calvary graduates are well-rounded, faith-grounded, and academically strong. Our college-prep curriculum includes AP and dual-credit courses, leadership opportunities, service learning, and spiritual development. Our students graduate with confidence—and on average, our seniors receive just under $300,000 in college scholarship offers per student.
What kind of community service or leadership opportunities are available?
Service learning is a key part of the Calvary experience—from PK3 through 12th grade, all students participate in service projects annually. High school students are required to complete 30 hours of service per year to graduate, and those who complete 40 hours annually earn a special service cord. Leadership and compassion go hand in hand at Calvary.
What extracurricular activities and sports are offered?
We offer a wide variety of extracurriculars, including athletics, fine arts, student government, academic competitions, spirit teams, and faith-based service groups. Because we’re a small school, students don’t have to “specialize”—they’re encouraged to explore multiple interests and take on leadership roles.
Do you offer before- or after-school care?
Yes, we provide extended care options for both lower and middle school students. This service is available to help support working families with a safe and structured environment beyond the traditional school day.
Is Calvary Episcopal Preparatory affiliated with a church?
Yes, Calvary is a mission of Calvary Episcopal Church. Our beautiful sanctuary is an integral part of the school’s spiritual life, and the church community actively supports and uplifts our students through prayer, participation, and generosity.
How do parents stay involved at Calvary?
Parents are an essential part of our community. From volunteering in the classroom to serving on the CPTO, helping with events, or cheering at games and performances, Calvary parents are deeply engaged. You won’t be on the outside looking in—you’ll be part of the heartbeat of the school.
What makes Calvary different from other private schools?
While many schools offer academics and activities, Calvary offers something more: spiritual growth, a true sense of belonging, and a mission-centered culture. Our students are known, loved, and challenged to be their best selves—in school and in life.
